The "A Candle in the Dark" Gala is the name from Morehouse College's official history book written by Edward A. Jones '26.

Since its founding in 1989, the Gala has become one of the nation's premier events that celebrates African American achievement and raises much needed scholarship funds for deserving students. This exceptional evening of elegance and accomplishment has honored more than 215 luminaries over the past 32 years.    

This year, the Candle in the Dark will look a bit different, but the success and commitment to excellence of our 2021 honorees and Gala Presenters will be just as impressive.

You can register today for this year's event by making a gift to support the Morehouse College General Scholarship Fund and invest in the next generation of scholars!  Your participation this year is more critical than ever. The health crisis, social resistance, increased unemployment, and contraction of the labor market broadened the disparity between affluent and working-class Americans. We must be aware that many of our students and their families are part of this vulnerable population. No scholarly research is needed to determine that there will be an exponential increase in the percentage of college-aged Black men who cannot afford to attend college.
